Quality concern,
20 March 2012
By: mcambec
from Upstate NY
"I bought this rod in a 9ft 9wt in January 2012. I was steelhead fishing and caught up on a rock. I tried to get the line free and the rod snapped at the second rod blank. I am really confused, I thought this would be a quality rod and it broke without much pressure on my part. I would have thought the 8lb tippet I was using would have broke first. I can't think it would have held up with a big steelhead on the other end. I guess I will send it back for repair, but now I question the craftsmanship of this rod."

"This rod is a great value for the money. I don't use it much for anything except big fish. It casts great and is plenty of stick for steelhead or salmon."

"This rod held up great against some big browns and salmon but when i hooked into a small steelhead, it cracked under the pressure. This is the second time this rod broke under regular use. It has potential but I was a bit dissapointed. I will be shipping it back again for the second time. If I keep paying $35 each time, I might as well have bought a helious."

"After three trips to Gaspe, Quebec for Atlantic Salmon and carrying an arsenel of rods, my 10' - 8wt - tip flex Clearwater II turned out to be the only rod I used or needed in a total of 18 days fishing on 5 different rivers. It has performed beyond my wildest expectations...casting, line control and fish fighting power. This rod is an 11 on a scale of 1 to 10."

"I just received three of these 9 wt orvis clearwater rods and reels. I bought them to haul on our extended motorcycle flyfishing trips in the five state area. we just returned from fishing the upper St. Croix in wisconsin and these rods n reels handled the big smallmoths in heavy conditions beautifully!"

"I bought this rod for steelies and kings. I use my 8wt clearwater with my big game orvis reel, what a combo. This 8wt rod did wonders on the big manistee steelies.Nice control an can do a lil horsing. When bottom boucning the tip is like a 7wt with the back bone of the 8, can't go wrong with this rod. I used it this fall on the kings, I put a beating on them big boys. Well worth the price. I have sage, scott, and g loomis rods. This orvis is my favorite rod for Fresh water big game. I'd like to take back my other rods and get my money back."

Great Rod for the money,
05 October 2008
By: Bilbo
from Steelhead Alley NW Pennsylvania
"Super nice fly rod I recently Purchased Two 108-4 one for each of my sons. Love the 25 year warranty. I must admit they compare very closely to my Helios for about 1/4 the price that means a lot of bang for the buck. Great overall steelhead rod very responsive light and casts well almost as good as my Helios. Cast for cast my sons can keep up with me and my Helios all day long. Which for the price says a ton about the quality of this rod?"

02 May 2008
By: ojibwehunter64
"I picked the 10ft 8wt up, really good back bone for steelies, landed a hugh 15lbs. buck, my buddie was using a sage fli 8wt, with my clearwater I was able to control & muscle the steelies in better, it was also senitive enough to not break my lite leaders, great rod over all, I think I'll stick with orvis"
