"I saw this hat in several of your catalogs (print & online) and took my time by shopping in local department stores and other online shops. There was nothing close to your product so I took a chance and ordered it.

"Ordered this deer skin driving hat, and bingo, as stated a high quality lovingly soft dark brown driving hat, gorgeous to look at and be admired by others, and color matched to my dark brown deer skin leather jacket. I had been looking, and found my perfect winter leather driving cap at Orvis, great job Orvis, again."

"As other reviewers mentioned, the stitching on the hat is different than what is pictured. There is a seam in the middle of the sides of the hat. Prior to ordering, we contacted Customer Service to see if this was truly the case. They said they would pull the item from stock to check. Weeks later, they still didn't have an answer. They were fairly certain the hat would be as pictured.
Customer Service was very accommodating and had the shipping expedited at no charge so it arrived by Christmas. Alas, the hat was not as pictured. And, as others also mentioned, the color was MUCH darker than pictured as well. Almost black. The hat is being returned.
Buyers BEWARE! Believe the reviewers -- the stitching and color of this hat is MUCH different than the item pictured!"

"1. Looks much blacker than catalog pic to me, hence lower score.
2. My size is 7-3/8 and the L-XL recommended is a bit loose, even with the somewhat cheesy looking incorporated white elastic band
3. Gloves and hat were shipped in a mailbox stuffing white plastic bag. Not much of a presentation given the $15.95 "freight" charge
4. I like the made in USA aspect - keep up the US sourcing where possible."

"First; the hat is so nearly black that I had to hold it next to black for comparison. The biggest reason I sent it back is that the hard wheat-colored lining shows under the brim in front. This looks much like a soft-feeling cap I ordered years ago but this one is stiff and just unattractive. For $115 (with tax and shipping) it should be a nice hat. While I'm here, why will Orvis not stop sending me paper catalogs as I have requested so often?"

"It took a while to determine that the bill of the hat and the top were twisted and not aligned properly. After I unsnapped the bill from the top, the snap components re-adjusted with a quarter inch misalignment. Poor quality construction and inspection for price."

"I have worn this cap for two winters now and I can honestly say that it is a very comfortable hat that sits perfectly and feels right. The deerskin is also very supple and nice to the touch. My only gripe is that the cap I purchased was not exactly like the one pictured which has a nicer appearance, in that the sides are seamless."

"Cold winter mornings. Brisk walk on the local trails. A weekend jaunt in your favorite roadster. Whatever your activity that takes you out the door, this driving cap offers an edgy yet rugged look when compared to your typical headwear. Nothing brings out one's masculinity better than a deep, rich leather. The deerskin of this piece is quality material that holds its shape rather well unlike a typical tweed cap. The color is true to the picture. Stitching is excellent with white interior. Think sporty. Like a racecar. Pairs nicely with a dark sunglasses. Match with same shades of leather shoes, belt. You should own at least one leather cap, so let it be this one.

"The hat meets all expectations. My hat size of 7 1/4 dictated I order the large/extra large size. The cap feels a tad large I own three Barbour driving hats sized Large or 7 1/4 sized hats that have a great fit. The hat does not have the same seam layout as the pictured hat it's seams do not run all the way front to back rather the seams are stitched as in a like pattern as pictured in the Donegal Irish Cap...small detail but I would have expected the item to reflect the same build as was pictured."

"The hat was small. I take a 7 5/8 although sized L/XL I found it too tight and had to take it to be stretched. It's OK now. When I unsnapped the peak to apply some leather protector the snap came apart. I had to take it to have this repaired.
I like the material, style,etc. just wasn't expecting it to require repairs before wearing."
