"The chill and the rain have come to Iraq and the Barbour Cowen is an excellent jacket--it keeps me warm and dry.
The jacket has ample pockets so that I can store all my gear and the drawcord waist is great for sealing out the wind. The design is practical, comfortable and smart.
I like this jacket a lot!"

"I purchased this jacket 2 years ago, and it is a well made and functional jacket that is at home anywhere.
Made in England (not far from where I live), this is a warm and hardwearing item which still manages to draw many compliments from friends and colleagues. The thermal insulation can be bolstered by a pile or quilted waistcoat, or you could just put a thick jumper on - there is plenty of room ( assuming you choose the correct size). I wear a 42" suit jacket, and the same size Cowen is a very comfortable fit.
Although hardly a fashion item, it is a good looking thing which feels 'right' as soon as you put it on. In my opinion it has much more character than the more commonplace Beaufort jacket ( which is still a classic piece of design).
The drawcord and adjustable inner stormcuffs really help 'lock the jacket down' in foul weather: water just runs off it. There is plenty of storage on the outside, a zipped inner breast pocket, and a large cartridge pocket on the inside left of the jacket ( which is great for holding a hat/ scarf/gloves/ etc).
I always look forward to wearing my Cowen, I'd recommend on without hesitation."

"Other jackets in the Barbour line are better, and a better value. This jacket seemed small in the shoulders, and the quality does not justify the higher price for this jacket, compared to others in the line."

"I purchased the Cowen Commando jacket two years ago and it has been my constant companion in cold weather. It's only not five stars because it doesn't have hand warmer pockets so you have to carry your gloves around with you in the external pockets. But the drawstrings really help keep the cold out. Highly recommended!"
